The WhatFriendsDo.com staff believes that spreading cheer makes any situation easier. Our "special days" cheer section provides you with ideas of ways to keep in touch on a regular basis, or just now and then. Some ideas will appeal to you and others will not … we hope you find something that fits just right for you!
March 12 – Plant a Flower Day – fill flower pots and flowerbeds with pansies today – they thrive in the cold weather and they’ll bring lots of smiles to your friend’s face! March 13 – Donald Duck’s Birthday – invite your friend’s children to your house for a classic Disney movie and a fun dinner. March 14 – Learn about Butterflies Day – butterflies represent transformation, and WhatFriendsDo.com was designed to help people through life transforming events. Learn what you can about your friend’s illness, or learn more about grief or depression. And then do what you can to be a figurative butterfly in your friend’s life! March 14 – National Potato Chip Day – chips & salsa and a good movie – what a great way to relax with your friend. March 15 – Incredible Kid Day – spend this afternoon with your friend’s children – a trip to a museum, a movie, a park, or just hanging out at your house baking cookies will be fun. March 15 – National Quilting Day – use today to begin organizing a special ‘quilt of support’ for your friend – with contributions from all the special people in his/her life. March 16 – Milk Shake Day – stop at your friend’s favorite shake place and get a carry-out order, or take all the fixin’s for yummy shakes for the whole family. March 17 – Saint Patrick's Day – decorate your friend’s front door with 3-leaf clovers and deliver a traditional Irish meal – or at least plenty of green foods! March 18 – Penny for Your Thoughts Day - today, be all ears. If your friend is mourning a loved one, facing tough medical decisions, or preparing for surgery, offer ‘a penny for your thoughts’ and be a good listener. March 18 – Supreme Sacrifice Day – use today to give special thanks to those who have made sacrifices for you… family members, military persons, firefighters and policemen. And make a small sacrifice by donating blood today. March 19 – Poultry Day – if you are taking a meal to your friend’s family today, consider taking friend chicken, roast duck, turkey pot pie… whatever your favorite poultry meal might be. March 20 – International Earth Day – take steps toward making your home habits and work habits a bit ‘greener’. Organize neighbors to clean up empty lots, common areas, play areas. Plant trees, shrubs and bushes. And by all means, gather with friends to do a ‘spring cleaning’ of your friend’s yard. March 20 – Extraterrestrial Abductions Day – your friend’s spouse / primary caregiver needs a break – abduct him or her today to enjoy time at the spa, golf course, movies or just a relaxing meal out. March 20 – First Day of Spring – hooray!! Your friend’s spirits will be brightened with a pot of blooming tulips or daffodils. March 21 – Fragrance Day – treat your friend to a scented candle that will provide a lovely fragrance as well as a calming effect. March 22 – National Goof Off Day March 22 - Fill a Mailbox with Poetry Day - ask everyone to write a poem – serious or silly – and mail it to your friend. March 23 – Stock Up Day – offer to do some ‘stocking up’ for your friend. Paper goods, canned goods, craft supplies, school supplies – whatever your friend needs! March 24 – Remember When Day – Remember when cancer hadn’t been diagnosed yet? Remember when a loved one hadn’t passed away yet? Remember when life wasn’t so challenging? Today – remember ‘when’ and enjoy lots of happy memories. Use those memories to every day shine! March 25 – Pecan Day – yum – pecan pie, salad with pecans, a bowl of pecans – whatever nutty form you choose, share some pecans with your friend today March 25 – Waffle Day – treat your friend’s family to a great breakfast today – including waffles. March 26 – Make Up Your Own Holiday Day – you know what your friend likes – make up your own holiday and celebrate it with your friend! March 27 – National "Joe" Day – today we thank a very special “Joe” who helped make this site a reality. If there’s a special Joe in your life, let him know he’s appreciated. March 28 – Something on a Stick Day – popsicles, lollipops, pinwheels -- send some creative and goofy gifts to provide instant smiles! March 29 – National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day – today take your friend for lunch at a local neighborhood café and then stop at her favorite boutique for something fun. March 30 – National Doctor's Day – providing cheer is what friends do – providing medical expertise is what doctors do. Do something today to help your friend thank his/her doctor. March 30 – I am in Control Day – well of course you are – NOT! This is just a great pre-April Fool’s Day, isn’t it. Celebrate your friend’s ability to be flexible today. March 30 – Take a Walk in the Park Day – or how about a picnic? Invite lots of friends to a local park for a short party! March 31 – Daffodil Day – leave a bouquet of daffodils on your friend’s doorstep today – a perfect spring hello!

A thoughtful note or email letting your friend know you remember that they lost a loved one on a particular date will be very much appreciated. A congratulatory note for a milestone of being cancer free, or for making incredible progress after an accident will be a wonderful boost to your friend's spirits.
